Ancient Inspiration: Mayan Influenced Art

In honor of my trip to the Mayan Riviera next week with the fiance and his band, I thought I'd share some images of Mayan inspired art. Ancient Mayan culture produced absolutely amazing art and architecture, with complex patterns and intricate designs using a wide variety of media. I love seeing artists today incorporate traces of this uniquely beautiful style of art into their work.

Images, from top: 1. Mayan inspired quilt (Priscilla Bianchi), 2. Sterling Mayan inspired earrings (Kira Ferrer), 3. Mayan Jaguar God Print (Tiger House Art),
4. Mayan calendar inspired slate wall hanging (Blyth House Creations), 5. Handcrafted, fair trade Mayan woven pillows (National Geographic).

Happy Friday!

  1. Lucky, have a good trip!

And have to say, the Jaguar print is kind of amazing. Not my usual style at all but there is something really alluring about it.

  5. Thanks everyone! Holly, I agree with you on the jaguar print... It's not necessarily what I'd call my normal style of art, but the lines and muted colors are just so amazing. I can't wait to see the different types of Mayan art in Mexico!
