Into the Woods: Our Weekend with Bubby

After a very sad Saturday Morning Daydreams post regarding my sweet Bubby dog, I thought I'd share with you some snippets of what - despite a few tears - was a really joyful weekend with him.  Because of his old doggy issues (mainly Arthritis), it had been quite some time since he'd taken a trip to the forest preserve, his very favorite place to be. So naturally, into the woods was exactly where we needed to take him.

(There isn't much in life that Bubby loves more than "flying.")

Bubby seems as happy and healthy as ever, but we know that at any moment now, he will begin to go downhill.  His vet was incredibly compassionate and genuinely sad for us (I'm sure my falling to my knees, sobbing, didn't help), and told us that he'll let us know when it is time.  Until then, I'll be spending every moment by his side, thanking the universe for bringing something so extraordinarily wonderful into my life 15 years ago.  I'm not sure how I'll function without him, but for now, every minute is a blessing.

For those of you who are pet owners, hug your fur babies extra hard today, and tell them it's from Bubby.

    This is beautiful. How great that Bubby got to go to his favorite place this weekend. He is such a beautiful dog. I have tears in my eyes! Try to enjoy these final days with you muse, I can't imagine how hard this is!!!

    That "flying" pic is so precious. He looks so happy. I'm glad he got to have a fun day. I hope he gets several more! He's lucky to have you guys as such loving parents!

    I lost my black lab mix last august, it was so hard. he looked a lot like bubby. it isn't easy to say goodbye, but you are right to just enjoy every minute you can with him while he is OK.
