Between my work load this time of year and Robbie's schedule with the band over the next several months, we've known for a while that we'd have to postpone planning a honeymoon trip. After our final guests left town last Monday, and the dust of months of wedding madness began to settle in, we decided we'd try to make our own little staycation honeymoon throughout the week. We really did have the best intentions of doing this, but things like cleaning our house, writing wedding thank you notes, and attempting to catch up on work (and sleep!) pushed these intentions to the wayside.
This weekend, we realized that we'd devoted so much time and energy into creating a fun celebration for our loved ones that we hadn't had the time or energy to celebrate ourselves. We needed to make our pseudo/mini honeymoon a priority, even for just one day. It being October and all, a nice breakfast out followed by a trip to the pumpkin patch seemed like the perfect newlywed day date.
It had been a while since either of us had taken photographs (a hobby we both love), so we had fun snapping pictures along the way. It was an unseasonably warm 80 degrees in Chicago, which made the day especially awesome - especially for two people who hang on to the end of summer here by our fingernails. We took our time exploring all of the pumpkins and gourds, petting the ridiculously adorable animals at the farm, and just hanging out together.
We also picked up a sweet little bright orange pumpkin, some beautiful white gourds, a jar of apple butter, a gallon of fresh raw cider, and a box of homemade cinnamon and sugar doughnuts. When we got home, we relaxed, made veggie pizza from scratch, and then made vanilla icecream in our brand new shiny red (my fave) Kitchenaid mixer that Robbie's mom and my mom surprised us with on our wedding day. It's not very often that Robbie and I get lazy, leisurely days with just the two of us, so it was very appreciated. It's pretty cool to be married.
Happy Monday! Stay tuned for more pictures from the wedding this week, as well as a special announcement regarding my sister Morgan and Bubby and Bean! (Check out my Morgan's guest post from last week on how to make your own personalized honey jar party/wedding favors!)
Sounds like a perfect day date to me!

good to hear you had some lazy couple time! i'm not sure i've ever had apple butter before. it sounds very autumn-y, just like your photographs. i've been loving our 80 degree weather. we've dealt with 106-110 degree drought, all summer, but that's texas.
