Time for a brand new edition of Friday is for Favorites! For new readers, 'Friday is for Favorites' is my (almost) weekly series where I become a rebel, and break all of my own rules of design cohesiveness to which I normally adhere on the Bubby and Bean blog. No themes, trend collections, or matching aesthetics - just a random mix of things I happen to be loving that particular week. This Friday I'm being extra defiant, however, by breaking my Friday Favorites rule of breaking my regular rule of keeping collections/posts cohesive on Bubby and Bean. See, the weather has been unseasonably, ridiculously awesome in Chicago this week, and my daydreams have been filled with springtime dresses. So although all my favorites this week are somewhat random, there in a common theme. Technically, that sort of negates the whole rule-breaking thing in the first place, especially when you consider than I took things a step further and grouped these dresses into collections by where to find them. But I'm going to pretend it's actually a double rule-breaker, because dissent and rebellion are much more exciting ways to end the week.
1. I have a full-on springtime crush on these cheery, bright dresses from ShopRuche.com. This spring is all about bold colors like tangerine and turquoise, and soft, sweet pastels like sorbet yellow. Which means that I obviously need one of each of these in my size. SPECIFICS: Sleeveless Dress with Crochet Back, $67.99 // Floral Sunrise Pleated Dress, $44.99 // Sorbet Dessert Tube Dress In Lemon, $52.99
2. Since I have a bit of a problem with patterned shoes/bags and excessive jewelry, owning these three solid spring dresses from Tulle Clothing would mean unlimited pairing possibilities. I'm especially eyeing that grey one on the left. Come on awesome grey dress with crochet back(!!), you know you want to shack up in my closet. SPECIFICS: Sleeveless Dress with Crochet Back, $58 // Maxi Dress with Pleats and Braided Strap, $78 // Belted Dress, $33.75.
3. I know I feature a lot of ModCloth, but it's not my fault that they add gorgeous new dresses to their online shop on such a regular basis. When I'm feeling a little fancy this spring, I'd love to know that I could rely on these three super-pretty frocks for a date night or an afternoon of tip-toeing throw the tulips. SPECIFICS: Countryside Brunch Dress, $79.99 // Atta Pearl Dress, $129.99 // The Show Must Flow On Dress, $67.99
4. What springtime is complete without a little vintage floral? Any of these gorgeous, ultra-feminine dresses - all found on Etsy - would make the season of blooming flowers even more amazing. I'm sure of it. SPECIFICS: Vintage 1960s Floral Dress by Decades, $68 // Vintage 1950s Spring Leaf Dress by Dear Golden, $180 // Vintage 1950s Floral Cotton Dress by SwanneGRACE, $208
What are you up to this weekend? Are you doing anything fun for St. Patrick's Day? Here's a story for you. I grew up in Chicago, where everyone was Irish. Except me. I felt like a dunce in the corner at school while all of my friends wore green and talked of Leprechauns and four-leaf clovers and stuff. Then I moved away. I moved all over the country, and did my thing, until eventually, around six years ago, I headed back to Chicago. Right around that time, my mom and aunts discovered a secret: we are, in fact, Irish. Like a quarter Irish. That meant I had a lot of St. Patrick-style celebration catching up to do. And until this year, I have done just that. Alas, tomorrow, I'll be speaking in an Irish accent with a tear in my green beer all by my lonesome. My husband's band (who is very, very Irish) will be playing their annual St. Patty's Day show in Oakland. And although I've been back and forth about making the trip for weeks, I made the (borrring) decision to be responsible and not spend the money. Most of my friends will be joining the band out there to celebrate, so I'm just going to sit here and feel sorry for myself. Thankfully, the weather gods decided to play a big joke, and while it's supposed to be cool and rainy there, it's going to be sunny and in the 70s here (haha!). So at least I'll get to enjoy some sunshine while reciting limericks solo.
Whatever you have planned, I hope it's wonderful!
lovely dresses. isn't the weather just amazing in the midwest? it's been awesome here in bloomington, too. sorry you can't join robbie + UM in the st. patty's day festivities :( at least it will be pretty outside!

ReplyDeletemaybe you can wear a floral spring dress, & have an outdoor adventure, while taking photos, going window shopping. then finish it off by buying yourself an irish treat. i'm sure there are plenty of happenings in chicago this weekend. :)

Oh, ModCloth. Why do you always put out things I want when I shouldn't be spending money?
ReplyDeleteI'm not Irish, so I've never been super into St. Patrick's Day. I wear green so nobody pinches me, and sometimes I have a green beer, but that's about it! I spent the weekend with my sister in Indy doing some vintage shopping.
I live semi-close to Oakland (about an hour south) and it's super funny that you mentioned our weather. I've been reading on everyone's blogs that their weather is warm and spring-like and awesome and here we've been sitting in the rain for a week (plus about a minute of hail! That's big for us!) Not that I dislike rain or anything, I just think it's kind of ironic : ]
ReplyDeleteAnd Ruche! It's nuts that about 85% of the dresses they add to their website I want. Haha I usually just omit the idea of buying a dress from them completely because I would never be able to choose just one!
These dresses are gorgeous - loving the vintage ones in 4 :)
