There is nothing I love more than to watch my little nieces explore their artistic sides. When we get together, one of our favorite activities is to experiment with art and DIY projects. Seeing them so inspired to create their own special works of art is an incredibly rewarding experience for me, and watching their proud reactions at their masterpieces basically makes me the happiest aunt in the entire world. (See Elli above with the landscape drawing she did with pastels - cutest thing ever.) I know that those of you with special kids in your life can relate, which is why I'm absolutely thrilled to be teaming up with Gap Kids today to tell you guys about an amazing event taking place this weekend and next, called Shine On Saturdays!
Unleash your inner artist! Designed by Merrilee Liddiard of Mer Mag, the projects were inspired by the GapKids and babyGap fall collection, including the best new 1969 denim - Jewel Box Skinnies for girls (the new skinny jean updated in bright stretchy denim) and Action Stretch Denim for boys (designed for play all day; it’s denim that's made to move). From creating geometric masterpieces on canvas using paint and tape to colorful, custom journals to get kids ready for back-to-school, the projects help kids express their creativity!
Those of us in the Chicago area are lucky to have Shine on Saturday events going on at two different GapKids locations over the next two weekends:
On Saturday, August 18th, from 10 AM to 1 PM, create your own journal at GapKids at Westfield Old Orchard (4999 Old Orchard Center #A6, Skokie, IL 60077).
On Saturday, August 25th, from 10 AM to 1 PM, make an animal character badge at GapKids at Oakbrook Shopping Center (533 Oakbrook Center, Oak Brook, IL 60523).
(If you're outside of the Chicago area, you can view the other Shine On Saturday locations here.)
These events are free (woohoo!) and are going to be such a fun way for kids and adults alike to come together and get their craft on. I hope you guys can make it!

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this post, Melissa! Hubby and I were just talking about needing to get some jeans for the boys, so I'm going to check out this Shine on Saturdays thing and see if there's one nearby!

Gapkids, and BabyGap are totally on our list of stores we frequent. This is one of several reasons I still need to get my butt out to Chicago. Sounds like a great event, very cool that you were able to team up and promote it.
