I thought it would be fun to start a new series here where I share bits and pieces of different rooms and spaces throughout my home. (It would probably be more accurate to call it a 'mini series' because in reality, my house is pretty small and there aren't that many rooms to share - but you get the point.) When I visit someone's home for the first time, it is usually the details of the space that stick in my memory - pictures, patterns, knickknacks, textures, corners, artwork, colors. It's so interesting to me to see how people choose to incorporate objects and details into the overall aesthetic of a room. So that's what I plan to share with you guys.
My living room is probably my favorite room in the house. Aside from my office/studio, it's the space where I spend the most time. Robbie and I watch a lot of movies in here, listen to a lot of records in here, eat a lot of meals in here, and spend a lot of late nights sitting on the couch together reading. When we have friends over, the living room is our main hang. We also recently redecorated it with a focus on a neutral color scheme (black, white, grey and tan), mixed with wood and lots of black and white stripes. I love minimalism but I also like to fill rooms with collections and trinkets, and I was able to incorporate both into this space. During this time of year, when it's cold and dreary, I'm especially grateful for this room because there are two big windows and a fireplace. It's simultaneously the most open room and the coziest room in our place.
Are you the type of person that most often focuses your attention on details in a space? What is your favorite room in your home?
Great idea for a new post...I love all the beautiful details in this room from the gorgeous old camera collection to the pom pom flowers. I'm also really detail-orientated and I love collecting odds and ends that all have a piece of my overall story to tell. Looking forward to glimpses of other rooms soon :)
ReplyDeleteI can already tell I'll love this mini-series. Love your artwork! That pillow is dreamy. I'll admit, I got teary seeing the artwork of Bubby; what a precious tribute.

love your vintage cameras and the stones!! :) fantastic and very breathable
ReplyDeleteI love the details!!!Lovely blog!!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving black and white too. It's easy to decorate with and always looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love that black and white pillow. Our living room is nice but I haven't decorated it enough. My favorite room is our office/guest bedroom. We have a futon sofa bed and our TV is in here so I spend the most time in here. This is also where I do most of my crafting and work too.
ReplyDeleteYour living room is GORGEOUS! I love how the neutral colors allow all the details and trinkets to pop, but not be too overwhelming! Hope you're having a wonderful day!

Your livingroom looks like those stylish rooms straight off of a decor magazine!!! So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMy fave room in my house is my bathroom which is hilarious because the walls are disgusting. We live in a basement apartment so I don't want to spend too much time decorating.. but sometimes I just love the way the light shines through the window in the bathroom with the dark brown decor :)

Almost Endearing
Most of the time I am a REAL detail person, but sometimes - not so much. I guess it all depends (I'm one of those in-between people. When I take a personality test, it's almost always in the middle!).
ReplyDeleteI love the all of the vintage cameras that you have on display! My house is so "lived-in" with four kids (five if we count hubby, a big kid himself), that my decorating efforts hit the back-burner. One day, though, I'll be able to decorate. Your living room is gorgeous. Love the black & white portrait (is it his head sticking out the car window?)!
~Kim
Yep, the illustration is of Bubby sticking his head out of the car window! One of our dear friends took a picture we had of him and commissioned one of her friends to turn it into a drawing. She then gave it to us at our wedding. :)
Deleteso pretty - i love all the natural touches.
ReplyDeletelove this
ReplyDeleteLooks like such a great space, I love all the little pieces of inspiration throughout. My favorite would have to be that poster set "When you love what you have..."
ReplyDeleteExcited to see the rest of the series!
Thanks Holly! That poster set is actually from my shop (right here). :)

Oooooh I love this!! I can't wait until our living room/office/downstairs is finally done!! We've been living in a quater of our house...it's not fun!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful space! I think my favorite room in our house is my studio... not because it is finished, but because I can look at it and see what it will be, and I feel so accomplished in there. Second on my list would definitely be the living room. It is the first room since we bought our house that we decorated completely, and I have a secret love affair with our couch. :)
ReplyDeleteI love all the little details and the idea of a mini series showing your home. It is beautiful, can't wait to see more:)

ReplyDeleteI love it! The mix of neutrals is so soothing, and makes it easy to add bits of fun without being overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite room is the dining room, hands down. Once we get our cabinets painted I'll like the kitchen and family rooms more, too, but those still look a little off-kilter, haha.

ReplyDeleteoooh, the rocks, of course I am LOVING the rocks!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful home! I love these great detail photos :)
ReplyDeleteAh, your living room is so perfect!!! Jen and I just have one room, her childhood bedroom, as we live with her parents and so we're planning on re-doing the room to fit our style. White walls, lavender accent wall with white birch tree wall decals (stencils?), lots of natural elements, etc. ^_^ Cannot wait!!! We have a futon mattress to sleep on, so we can fold that baby up when it's not in use!
ReplyDeleteI love the print on that pillow! So cute!
