Of all of the outfits I've showcased in posts throughout the My Style series, this one is probably the most 'me.' Although I consider myself to be a summer girl who loves gauzy dresses and summery shorts and sandals more than anything else, I am a huge fan of layering, which is, of course, much more doable in the colder months.
This is type of outfit I wear on a daily basis - comfortable, and with enough layers that I can easily add and remove pieces throughout the day. Friday was chilly and rainy, and this look is the epitome of my rainy day uniform. I wore the dress, scarf, leggings, and socks while I was working, then threw on the jacket, shirt, booties and hat to run errands in the rain.
I received this gorgeous infinity cowl from the amazing talented Susannah Bean last month, and I've worn it incessantly. She let me pick out the colors, and (shocker) I chose ash and charcoal. Despite my affinity for greys, I also chose these shades because they literally go with everything, which has allowed this piece to become my go-to winter accessory. The yarn is incredibly soft and cozy, and it's long enough that I can double it up like I did in these photos, or even it triple it for the extra cold days. I really love it and can't recommend Susannah's goods highly enough. Plus she's a really nice person and all-around bad ass, which in my mind makes her work even more awesome.
The dress is actually a piece that I designed a few years ago for my eco-friendly clothing company, Mountains of the Moon. It's an asymmetrical mock wrap dress made from a jersey blend of organic cotton and hemp, and although I wear it much more frequently in the summer months, it's one of my favorite pieces to layer with leggings or tights in the fall and winter.
The leggings, which come from our friends over at Oasap, are made from bamboo, making them eco-friendly as well. Score! Also, I just have to say that I am officially obsessed with these shoes I picked up at Target last weekend for $17.49. Yep. I ran in to Target to get a new planner, and came out with the planner, a dress, some nail polish, facial cleanser, and these shoes. Sigh. I've actually been on the look-out for a pair of oxford style wedge booties like this for a while, but haven't been able to find any in this color. Since I wear so much grey in the winter, I wanted a slightly 'bright' shade of brown or tan to break up the monotony of my outfits. When I saw these (and then saw the price tag), I was sold.
The super cute rust-colored hat you see in a couple of these shots came from the lovely Robyn over at She Makes Hats. Robyn is a sponsor here at Bubby and Bean from time to time, and she sent me this hat a couple of months to say thanks. (How awesome is that?) Like the cowl, it's become a winter staple for me. The fit is perfect and I adore the fact that I can add a pop of color to my (often quite boring) bundled-up winter look just by throwing it on.

Do you have a particular style of outfit that has become a rainy day (or any type of day) uniform for you?
You pull it together with ease. I love the mix of textures in your layers!

ReplyDeleteIf I had a rainy day uniform I'd love for it to be this stylish! It inspires me to try out some layering for the next couple of months while it's cold outside. =) I love the dress with the denim shirt and leather jacket. Great look!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the layers, girl! You look so lovely! Stay warm! XO
ReplyDeleteThat hat is so cute. I really like the orange. My favorite thing to wear for a rainy day is my pair of Sporto ankle rain boots. They are so perfect for the rain and snow and I just love wearing them.
ReplyDeleteSo, I don't have the best memory ever, but if I'm remembering all your past outfits like I'm pretending I do, I would say this is my favorite so far! Love it! And in the picture where it's just you from your shoulders up--in the cowl and just the dress--you look gorgeous! Possibly my favorite picture I've seen of you too. So yeah, all around wonderful today : ]
ReplyDeleteSuch a stylish put together. since I've been working from home this winter, I haven't been very inspired in my style. Maybe I should work on that!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful outfit!!! Honestly, if it's rainy and I'm chilly, I put on my favorite hoodie. I'd love a hoodie collection. Years ago they were kind of bulky and just... ordinary with a few stand outs. Now they're so funky and fun, pretty and dainty, gothic, etc. Bulky, extra thin, soft... LOVE IT.
ReplyDeleteI love your outfit. It looks really nice. Especially with the cowl you look so pretty. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you guys so much for the sweet comments. I always feel completely weird posting so many photos of myself, especially because I tend to look like an alien trapped in a vacant stare in at least half of them. But I did really love this outfit and am happy so many of you do as well. :) xo, m
ReplyDeletelove the hat!
