This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and People StyleWatch and InStyle magazines, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #PeopleInStyle http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO
For the most part, if I had to define my style, I'd say something like 'minimalist modern bohemian.' I gravitate toward the casual, and I like clean lines, simple cuts, and neutral colors with boho-inspired undertones. And although I don't consider myself to be 'trendy,' I've always been a fan of playing around with trends. So when I had the opportunity to head to Target to pick up the current issues of InStyle and People StyleWatch and create an outfit based on some of the trends that I read about in the magazines, I was pretty excited. I was also a little unsure of how things would turn out, because let's face it - it's not easy to feel put together (or fit into anything in your closet) when you're 8+ months pregnant. I was up for the challenge though, and in the end, I came up with something that incorporated some of my favorite trends from the mags, but was still very me (and still comfortable for a very pregnant lady).
Although InStyle and People StyleWatch are both full of gorgeous holiday party looks, I was drawn to two of the more casual trends featured: graphic statement sweaters/sweatshirts and '90s grunge. I had purchased this typographic 'Heart and Soul' sweatshirt a couple of months ago but had only worn it once - mainly because I've been living in a tunic/leggings uniform every single day. I instantly fell in love with the sweatshirt when I saw it in the store, but once I bought it, I couldn't decide if I liked the way it looked over my big ol' baby belly. I decided to try a plaid flannel shirt underneath it after getting a little grunge-inspiration from the mags, and that did the trick. I love the way the plaid pattern breaks up all of the solid, and even though the shirt itself practically defines casual, I feel like it dresses the sweatshirt up a little bit.
Blue jeans never go out of style, but they were a pretty definitive part of '90s grunge fashion - especially baggier styles. So I switched my daily leggings uniform out for a pair of slightly baggy, boyfriend-cut maternity jeans. I added my favorite moccasins and floppy hat, some simple jewelry, and I was good to go. I see myself wearing this outfit quite a bit over the next couple of months (and after baby arrives as well!).
If you guys are looking for some outfit inspiration this season, I highly recommended heading to your local Target and picking up a copy of the December issues of InStyle and People StyleWatch. They are packed full of style tips, tricks, and trends, including highlights from the entire year. Here's the best part: If you buy them both at the same time, you'll get a $5 Target Gift Card. Score.

ReplyDeleteMy "uniform" is pretty much jeans and a sweatshirt or sweater...so this look is right up my alley. I love how the plaid shirt transforms the whole outfit!
