I'm fairly certain that the majority of you who are reading this probably have at least a mild case of cabin fever right now. I sure do. Traveling has been such a huge part of my life for so long, and every year between late February and early March, after months of being "trapped" at home, it hits me. In the midst of one of the harshest winters I can remember, mine is at an all time high. I have been dreaming of being able to take Essley outside for more than the time it takes to load her into the car, and being able to actually take her places beyond just the store or grandma's house. I've also been literally counting down the days until she and I head to Arizona next month to visit her grandparents. (I've been very on the fence about taking her on a trip at 2.5 months, but the promise of her experiencing a week of warm weather has swayed me toward doing it. Any advice on taking a baby on an airplane? Yikes!).
Over the weekend, I found myself looking back on photos from some of my recent travels, and thought I'd share some of my favorites. I've posted past travel photo round-ups before, but these shots are all specifically from trips taken in the last year.
Photos from top: Eastern Iowa // Scottsdale, Arizona // Door County, Wisconsin // Scottsdale, Arizona // Tulum, Mexico // Sedona, Arizona // Tulum, Mexico // Dillon, Colorado // Lake Geneva, Wisconsin // Bartlett Lake, Arizona // Austin, Texas // Scottsdale, Arizona // Door County, Wisconsin // Sedona, Arizona // Dillon, Colorado
I hope that these images help remind my fellow cabin fever sufferers that there is indeed a world outside of winter-induced, house bound type Claustrophobia!
Not to be a total bummer, but we're supposed to get another 4"-6" of snow today. I'm so over it. My in-laws are in Arizona right now and I'm crazy jealous.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember the last time I've had a holiday someplace warm. It's usually just city trips...
ReplyDeleteStunning landscapes! I miss the sun :)
I did lots of traveling with infant when mine was wee. At this age, I suggest keeping her on you in a carrier and trying to find a flight time that is in sync with a nap schedule. Plan to nurse at take off and landing to prevent ear troubles. Then, most importantly, remember, the worst thing that can happen is she will scream for the entirety of the flight-- and although that would suck-- it would not end the world, and the flight would be over in X amount of hours. Knowing this gave me a sense of power and control over the situation so I wasn't so stressed. By the way, we traveled about 5 times for 5+ hour flights the first year of M's life and NOT ONCE did he scream for the entire flight. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Fara!

Deletep.s xanax works nicely too ;)-- for mama-- not baby (obv!)
DeleteHa! I'm nursing so no xanax but I can imagine that would be quite helpful. :)
DeleteI totally have cabin fever and I'm drooling over these pictures!!! I want to take a trip arrgghhh!!
ReplyDeleteI want to go some place sunny, and colourful. I am so done with rainy days!
ReplyDeleteI know Hey Natalie Jean wrote an awesome post about babies and planes, so try googling that. Gorgeous photos! I live fairly close to door county when I'm in my hometown, so that's cool!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Z! I'll look into it!
DeleteI am SO ready for Spring -- these pictures inspire hope. You'll have fun taking little Essley for outings once the weather warms up and the snow melts.
ReplyDeleteAhhh those Sedona pictures! I've always wanted to go there. I'm so sick of winter. =(
ReplyDeleteI live in Kentucky and we've had an exceptionally snowy winter - I'm feeling the cabin fever too! Aspiring Kennedy wrote a post recently about traveling with a baby. I'm not a mother, but it seems pretty legit :)

I should clarify that I mean exceptionally snowy (for us). I'm sure it doesn't even come close to what you've been putting up with!
DeleteThanks for the suggestion Sandy!
DeleteI took my first baby to the UK from Australia when she was 11 weeks old - so 22 hours in the air. It was actually a really good time to travel as she just wanted to feed and sleep. The carrier is a great idea, and I would also have at least one change of clothes for each of you easily accessible, as you never know how little tummies might react to flying (learnt that one the hard way on a shorter flight). A crying baby also seems to help you speed through Customs/security...
ReplyDeleteoh goodness.. how did I forget to mention changes of clothes!! Yes, super important... for you and baby. I learned that lesson the hard way after having M puke all over me about 20 minutes into a 5 hr flight and I had a change for him but nothing extra for me. The guy sitting next to me found another seat ;o)
DeleteGreat suggestion Freya! Thank you!
DeleteThese pictures make me yearn for summer so badly! My parents leave for AZ tomorrow and then head to Hawaii from there...I'm beyond jealous! And they're headed to FL in April...must be nice to be retired...lol :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great time in AZ!
What a beautiful mini-tour :) and I love your grey mocs!
