Embracing Life's Little Messes

We may still have several months before baby Essley starts crawling, but that hasn't stopped my maternal paranoia (about the possibility of her consuming random particles from the floor) from kicking in full force.  Here's the thing - I am messy by nature.  I work from home, and although I have a separate office and studio space, there are pieces of my businesses all over the house: receipts, fabric swatches, bits of cardstock, etc.  And because I tend to do my design work sprawled out on the floor, a lot of it ends up, well, on the floor.  I've been getting much better about keeping the floor clean in anticipation of Essley's on-the-move days (and thanks to the newfound worry that accompanies it), but I still have a ways to go.  Most recently, my husband pointed out a pile of colored pencil shavings in the corner that had probably been sitting there for a good week.  Oops.

Along with being concerned about Essley eventually getting into mom's artsy floor messes, I've also started to get all sorts of worried about pieces of food, dirt, etc.  And with the new floors we put in last fall (read all about that here), the vacuum just doesn't come out as often as in the past.  As my regular readers know, I don't do many product reviews.  But when something comes along that either especially sparks my curiosity or appears to be useful to a specific situation in my life, there is a much better chance of me being game to trying it out. The Swiffer Sweep & Trap did both.

The Swiffer Sweep & Trap (which is new at Target) uses rotating blades to pick up large particles and flicks them into a dirt bin, while the attached Swiffer Sweeper dry cloth traps dirt, dust and hair that brooms can leave behind.  This innovative combination cleans up big and small messes in a single swipe - so you can embrace life's little messes, instead of stressing about them (like I've been).  I was really impressed by how well it worked and how easy it was to use.  Instead of hauling out the vaccuum or dragging out a broom, dust pan, etc., I can quickly grab this little miracle worker (which happens to be super lightweight and compact), and in one movement, the floor is clean and baby-proofed.  (Do I sound like a mom? Do I? Do I?)

Whether you're a fellow concerned mama/messy artist or just want a way to easily clean your hard floors, I highly recommend giving the Swiffer Sweep & Trap a try.  Just head over to Target.com and get $2 off of a Swiffer Sweep & Trap starter kit by entering coupon code TGTBBAGU.  (Offer is only valid through 2/28/14.)

What's your favorite way (or product to help) to embrace life's little messes?

  1. I have a swiffer! I use it to clean up the threads and bits of fabric that fall to the floor while sewing!

  4. This is going to sound so funny, but I love the photos in this post - even if they are mostly of a Swiffer, they're gorgeous! Although the pencils and shavings is my favourite by far. Masterful work!
