You guys might wonder why I'm putting together a post on patio furniture two days after Labor Day, instead of, you know, at the beginning of the summer when you still have several months of outdoor time in your future.  Well, there are two reasons, really.  The first is that late summer and early fall is my absolute favorite time of the year to spend outside on my deck.  The temperature is perfect, there's usually a nice breeze, there aren't as many bugs, and I think I just appreciate it more in general, knowing that in a few months, winter will have its ugly clutches all over us.  The second reason is that fall is generally the end of the patio furniture sales season, and many vendors offer pretty great discounts of which frugally-minded furniture shoppers (me! me!) can take advantage.  Almost all of the furniture and accessories on our deck were purchased this time of year when we were able to get deals.  (I like deals.)

The pieces you see above are some that have especially caught my eye during my annual early fall outdoor furniture browsing sessions.  As you can see, they're all very different styles.  I tend to lean toward simple, more urban designs for myself (I'm loving the Acapulco Chair from Patio Productions and the Cement Side Table from CB2) - but I'm making an effort to also keep comfort in mind these days when it comes to furniture, rather than just aesthetics. (See, husband? I'm trying!) Our deck is quite small and already holds a table, chairs, and grill (and a lot of plants).  But we live on a slight hill and the deck is on stilts - so there is nice area underneath that I've been thinking about fixing up into a sort of outdoor living space that would be especially perfect for autumn.

Do you spend a lot of time on your deck/patio/balcony/porch during early fall?  Which pieces above do you like best?

P.S. Our righteous babe of a Home Contributor, Paige, also wrote a great piece for us on her favorite outdoor pillows, if you're in the mood to accessorize your fall patio with some added color and coziness.

  1. I love the chair in #6. It looks like a comfy place to settle in with a good book/magazine and a cup of coffee!

  2. I dig the hanging chair, too! I'd have to really anchor it to something, though, because I'd want to swing around with my coffee. That could be cool indoors in a playroom, too.

    1. I agree that it would be great indoors! I'd love to fix up our basement when Essley gets older and have a chair like that for her.

  3. Basically, I think everyone with a soul wants #6.
I need one in my studio for quick naps, one in my reading corner, and probably 3 in my backyard. ;)
    Great post!

  4. Our terrace desperately in need of a make-over! We're planning on doing this next spring. Of course we'll need some new seating as well. I'd love to have a wicker sofa :)

  7. I just bought that bench from West Elm! Too funny. I'd take any of these pieces you've shown though, they're all quite lovely.

  8. It's posts like this that almost make me think I should weed my garden more and get out there on the patio... But we also have a park across the street, so most of the time, the only patio furniture I really need is a blanket ;)

  9. Our front patio is pretty small, so I like the bench. It's the perfect size.
