My Winter Care Essentials (To Stay Healthy + Get Relief!)

Ahhh, winter. My favorite time of year. Those of you who read here regularly know that I'm being facetious, of course. As much as I love the holidays and the coziness of wintertime, there is little I dislike more than cold weather, being stuck inside, and - the worst of all - winter illness. I'm big into preventative measures to help us stay healthy, and we do our best around here to eat well, get plenty of rest (as much as you can with a baby), wash our hands, and get regular exercise.  But sometimes you just can't fend off winter colds and viruses. And as a new mama, I'm admittedly even more concerned this year.

I have a habit of waiting until I'm already not feeling well to head to the store to get cold medicine or pain relievers, which is completely backwards. Who feels like braving winter winds and/or being in public when your whole body hurts? Now that I have a little one, I know that being proactive and having winter healthcare products on hand in advance is more important that ever, for her sake and ours. We're heading into the season of sickness, guys, and this time, I'm prepared with winter essentials - and not just for illness, but for the general aches and pains of this time of year as well.

Last week, I decided to stop by Walgreens and grab winter healthcare supplies. And lucky for me, I was not only able to stock up on the products I needed in one place, I was able to save all sorts of money. I grabbed Advil, Infant Advil, Robitussin, Thermacare patches, and Chapstick - all of our favorite cold relief items - for a screaming deal.  If you're looking to restock your medicine cabinet (and/or purse or diaper bag!) for winter like I did, I highly suggest heading over to your local Walgreens. Right now, you can save up to $10 on participating Pfizer products with their in-store coupon booklet, or by downloading the coupons online here. Woot!

I have to say, I'm feeling a little proud of myself (and slightly relieved too) that I'm all set with seasonal care essentials in advance this time. Fingers crossed that we'll all stay healthy, of course, but for once I'm actually prepared for relief if (or more realistically, when) we need it. Take that, winter!

  2. I also don't check my medicine inventory until it's TOO LATE! Yup, I'm that jerk in the drug store sniffling trying to figure out exactly what my cold symptoms are as I study every box of medicine. I'm really trying to be more healthy the natural way but sometimes, you just need the meds. :)

  3. I need to stock up on Carmex. We always, ALWAYS need it. And I should pick up some cough/cold meds, because it's always nice to have in the cabinet, just in case. So thanks for the reminder!

  4. I have to say, I really wish that healthcare companies could do what dentistry did years ago and get people on the preventative bandwagon - it's so much easier to be and stay well if you're taking care of yourself year round, not just treating symptoms as they appear. Good for you for stocking up :)

  5. I so need to do this. My hubby needed some cold medicine the other day and the package date was 2012! Yes, a trip to the pharmacy is definitely in order over here. Thanks for the reminder - winter is HERE!

  6. We are lucky to have a neighborhood Walgreens within walking distance. Another favorite of mine is Elderberry -- not just because I'm elder-ly.
    Be well!

  7. Ugh, I don't hate winter like you do, but I'm not a fan of the nasty cold I seem to get every year. I'm a maniac about keeping our medicine cabinet stocked because I'm not about to leave the house when I'm flopped on the couch, ill. I'm an Advil girl, too!
