Hummus has been at the top of my snack list for many, many years. My dad used to make it a lot when we were growing up, it was a staple for me in college, and I've continued to eat it on a regular basis as an adult. You just can't go wrong with chickpeas and tahini (or any beans and tahini, really), and the ingredients you can incorporate to create variety are almost endless. Even my 15 month old kid can't get enough of the stuff. I've started to utilize it for more than just a dip in recent years, incorporating it into recipes (on sandwiches in place of mayonnaise, as a 'sauce' in health bowls, even as a spread on toast for breakfast). I tend to buy it pre made (Trader Joe's has all sorts of delicious varieties), but I'm thinking it's time to start making it at home. (And with a certain big name brand being recalled recently, I'm even more motivated to make my own.) I've been doing some searching for recipes and decided that for this edition of 10 Great, I'd share some that have made my 'to try' list. Number 1 is so happening this weekend.
Who else loves them some hummus? Have you tried to make it from scratch?

I'm a big fan too! Need to try #6 :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm......... they all look yummy!
ReplyDeleteNever tried to make from scratch, will check Garlic and beet one!
We've really into hummus at Casa Ronchetti, too. I've been using it in place of mayo in tuna salad lately and it's sooooo good.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to sound absurd, but hummus is one of the very few things left that I still buy rather than making from scratch at home. I still haven't found a recipe that I like as much as the one that is made at our local Persian deli. But maybe one day...! Personally, I love it best with corn chips, instead of salsa. Or on pizza, with goat cheese and chili peppers. So delicious.

What my heck? Chocolate hummus?! So awesome! Yes, so about a year ago I got a mini food processor and can make my own now. It's super simple and I can regulate the garlic that goes in (I like extra)!
ReplyDeleteI love hummus and want to try all of these especially the chocolate one, sounds so yummy!
ReplyDeleteThis post is pretty timely because my sister also emailed me about that hummus brand being recalled...so, might not be a bad idea to start making my own too haha. We also use it on sandwiches all the time and as a "sauce" sometimes. :)
ReplyDeleteYum, thanks for sharing. :D I love to make it simply: chickpeas (or black beans, or cashews), olive oil, lemon juice, tahini and topped with paprika.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments everybody. Hummus lovers unite!
ReplyDeleteI love dipping things in hummus, but I've never tried making my own. Which I really should, I like knowing what goes into the stuff I eat :-)
