Tomorrow is Earth Day, which has always been a big deal to me. I make an effort everyday to be environmentally conscious in my choices and actions, but it's also nice to have a day each year specifically devoted to reminding us all how important it is to respect the earth. As many of you know, I also ran an eco-friendly clothing label called Mountains of the Moon for 15 years. Running this company allowed me to experience some really incredible earth and fashion focused events with my brand, including showing my collections at Chicago and Portland Fashion Weeks, producing eco-fashion shows at music festivals, showing a dress I made out of discarded candy wrappers at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art, and exhibiting at eco-expos throughout the country.

My favorite of these expos was the biggest of its kind in the eco-industry called Green Festival, where, almost 10 years ago, I met another eco-fashion designer from Oregon named Mira when our booths were set up next to each other. Mira was beautiful inside and out, incredibly talented, and just an all-around righteous babe who built a successful, conscious brand (while raising four babes!). We developed a friendship over the years, and while my career in fashion eventually went in another direction, Mira's continue to grow. Today, her clothing line, Sweet Skins, is one of the most well-known and loved sustainable apparel brands around, offering some of the most beautiful women's clothing I've ever seen (or owned!).
