After two sessions of parent-and-me toddler dance classes, Essley is currently taking her first real ballet class. (Or, more accurately, whatever form of ballet 2.5-3 year olds actually do.) She is way into it. I just love peeking through the tiny window on the door of her weekly lessons and spying on the little ones enthusiastically attempting awkward plies and first positions. I started ballet when I was 5 and continued taking dance in various forms all the way through college. And although I was never even close to talented enough to pursue it for anything more than fun, I adored it, and seeing Essley love it so much has been pretty wonderful. I've actually been feeling inspired by all things ballet lately as a result, hence the images you see above that I've come across recently and decided to share. I can't wait to take Ess to see The Nutcracker at Christmas time.
Did any of you take (or still take) dance? Are any of your little ones dancers? Who else could stare at images of ballet dancers for hours?

Awesome inspiration! Takes me way back to my ballet days :)
ReplyDeleteI bet Essley looks adorable in her ballet tunic!
I took my first dance class when I was six, and although I showed absolutely nothing approaching talent, I kept going until I was nearly twenty. It's been a long time since I've been in a dance class - I tried some unusual styles of dance in my later years of university but nothing really stuck. I did do ballet-inspired workouts for a while but I think so much of what is inspiring about dance is the experience of being in the studio, with the mirrors and the barre and the piano and the beautiful outfits - as these photos definitely illustrate :)

I started ballet (and other forms of dance) at age 4 and continue to this day. I'm nothing close to professional but I can't get enough. Ballet is, and will always be, my favourite of all dance forms! I just feel like my heart belongs on the dance floor. I can't wait to get my toddler into dance!!
ReplyDeleteNo ballet dancers here, but we are Lovers of the Ballet. My daughter and I have tickets this weekend to see the Pennsylvania Ballet perform Cinderella. It has been getting rave reviews and I can't wait. We also see the Nutcracker Ballet every year as a Mother/Daughter tradition. Love the Ballet!!!
ReplyDeleteThose pictures are amazing, I have a whole board on Pinterest with ballet pictures. I used to do figure skating and ballet till my twenties!
