First, I want to say thank you, so much, for the comments, emails, and Instagram and Facebook messages in regards to my stepfather's passing. It has now been a week and a half and while I still can't believe it, the love my family has received has made this difficult time a little easier to swallow. I'm very grateful for my readers and followers and the kindness you continuously show. You guys are the best.
That said, even during easier times, February is when I'm at the peak of my winter blues. Summer and fall really start to feel far in the past, but spring is still so out of reach. It takes a lot more effort for me to feel motivated when I'm stuck inside, with dreary cloud blanketed skies peering at me through the windows. Staying busy (which isn't hard these days), being active, and eating well helps a lot, but in order to stay focused and creative with work I also need to stay inspired. One of the best ways for me to do this is to save inspiring images or messages I come across online (to my Pinterest, to my phone camera roll, or to my bookmarks on my laptop), and just look at them from time to time. There is no cohesiveness or rhyme or reason to these images - they just make me feel good on some level. Even if I'm swamped with work or kid duties, I can still glance at them when I have a minute or two. It makes a difference! Today I thought I'd share some of these images with you guys, in hopes that they'll inspire you as well.
How do you stay motivated and/or inspired during the winter? Any tips for this summer girl?

Valentine's Day is what saves February from becoming another drab winter month. I have been checking out heart-themed DIY's and also made my own :)
ReplyDeleteJanuary is always the month I struggle most to stay inspired - by February I usually have upcoming travel plans to look forward to and the short months somehow seems easy to deal with. But still, not every day is particularly inspiring and it's fun to look through summery photos like these to remember better days are coming soon!

I'm so sorry again about your stepdad! I have a hard time in January and February too and I love the idea of having inspiring pictures like this to refer to! I also try to take walks even if it's freezing, it helps this time of year.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your stepfather, for what it's worth, you and your family are in my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely collection of images. Especially the last one appeals to me. I try to stay motivated be doing things for myself (getting sushi on a wednesday night, getting flowers, just for myself and to go outside). I also bought a light therapy lamp, that seems to help a bit.
I am so sorry to hear of your stepdad. Wishing you and your family continued healing.
ReplyDeleteThese images are wonderful. The backyard oasis is a dream of mine. I love the kids and their shadows. So whimsical! The winter blues are tough. Today we are getting over a foot of snow. Yuck!
