Play dough is legitimately my four year old son's favorite "toy." He asks for his for his birthday and holidays, and every single day begs to play with it. My six year old daughter loves it too. And it makes me happy to see them enjoy getting creative with something so simple.
A few years ago (as you can probably tell from how little the kids look in some of these photos and in the video below!), I shared a super easy recipe we came up with for homemade play dough, but somehow I'd completely forgotten about it. The other day, I remembered and we made some. The act of making it was a huge part of the fun for the kids, and they've been playing with it nonstop. It's a fun winter activity if you're stuck mostly indoors like we have been, so I though it was time to share it again.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup baby lotion (or any gentle lotion you have on hand)
2 cups corn starch
food coloring
Pour the cornstarch into a large mixing bowl. Add lotion, and begin mixing with your hands. The more you knead, the softer it becomes. Separate the dough into the number of colors you'd like to make it (we did three). Add a drop or two of food coloring to each pieces of dough and knead until blended.
We even made a video to go along with it when we first shared it years ago. It kind of makes me want to do more videos. Is this something you guys would be into?
